Since 2005, Cognitive Institute has proudly maintained accreditation from CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities), demonstrating a continued commitment to excellence, accountability, and best practices in behavioral health care. The agency is also fully licensed by the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH), ensuring compliance with state standards and regulations.

At Cognitive Institute, Inc., our mission is to provide medically necessary, evidence-informed mental health rehabilitation services that reduce the disability of mental illness and restore each individual to their highest possible level of functioning in the community.
We believe healing does not happen in isolation. That is why our model of care is child-centered, family-focused, community-based, and culturally competent — built on the understanding that lasting recovery requires collaboration across families, schools, and multiple systems of care.
Our services are delivered in the least restrictive, least intrusive manner possible — meeting people where they are, in their homes, in their schools, and in the heart of their community.

26 Years of Service
to Northwest Louisiana
1998
Founded in Mansfield, Louisiana
Cognitive Institute, Inc. was incorporated on February 26, 1998, and began serving clients on July 1, 1998. Founded to address the profound lack of accessible outpatient mental health services in DeSoto Parish and the surrounding Northwest Louisiana region, the Institute opened its doors at 809 Polk Street — a location it still calls home today.

Dual Three-Year Accreditation — Adults & Youth
The Institute today holds CARF Three-Year Accreditation — the highest level awarded — across two distinct programs: Outpatient Treatment for Adults, and Outpatient Treatment for Children and Adolescents. Maintaining this dual accreditation requires ongoing conformance surveys and demonstrates a sustained, organization-wide commitment to quality that has been renewed across two decades.
2024
BBB Accreditation & Leadership Evolution
In April 2024, Cognitive Institute, Inc. was awarded accreditation by the Better Business Bureau — reflecting the organization's long-standing commitment to ethical business practices and community trust. Under the leadership of CEO Marlena Laird, the Institute continues to expand its clinical capacity and deepen its impact across Northwest Louisiana.
